South Africa is forging ahead with a plan to create a new state-owned power company by converting three coal-fired plants into gas-burning generators to ease the nation’s energy crisis.
Europe faced a further squeeze in Russian energy supplies as Gazprom PJSC told French utility Engie SA it will reduce gas deliveries starting Tuesday because of disagreements over some contracts.
French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne urged businesses to cut energy use or face possible rationing this winter if Russia halts gas deliveries.
