OPEC Secretary General announced as keynote speaker at Global Energy Show Canada
The Global Energy Show Canada is set to make history this June as OPEC Secretary General His Excellency Haitham Al Ghais has confirmed his attendance as keynote speaker for the opening day of Canada's premier energy event.
Taking place from 10-12 June at Calgary's BMO Centre, the conference has already seen pre-registrations nearly double compared to last year's edition, with organisers expecting to reach full capacity within days. The announcement of His Excellency's participation underscores the growing international significance of Canada's energy sector on the global stage.
The OPEC Secretary General will speak as part of 'The Conversation', an executive conference hosted by renowned broadcaster Peter Mansbridge. This high-level dialogue will tackle critical questions about Canada's energy mandate over the next five years, bringing together industry titans, policy makers, and government officials from across Canada and internationally.
Impressive roster of energy leaders
His Excellency joins an impressive roster of more than 150 distinguished energy leaders, including Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, Shell Canada's Country Chair Stastia West, Trans Mountain CEO Mark Maki, and Cenovus Energy's Jon McKenzie. The conference will also feature strong representation from Indigenous leaders, including Chief Crystal Smith of the Haisla First Nation.
The timing of this year's event is particularly significant, occurring just before the G7 Summit amid heightened global focus on energy security, affordability, and infrastructure investment. With energy issues dominating recent political discourse and international markets facing unprecedented challenges, Calgary finds itself at the centre of crucial conversations about the future of global energy.
This year's exhibition will feature a record 11 country pavilions and nearly 500 exhibiting companies, alongside delegations from 100 countries. The event has expanded by 20% to accommodate the surge in interest, with Calgary anticipating a 30% increase in hotel bookings. Over 30,000 attendees from more than 100 countries will gather at the heart of Canada’s energy capital to engage in pressing, high-stakes dialogue on the future of energy — from affordability and investment to building national energy infrastructure and diversifying the country’s energy buyers globally.
A bold new event programme
Recognised as Canada’s annual national energy event, a strong delegate representation is expected from the oil and gas sector again this year, as well as sizeable diversity in representation from the nuclear, hydro-electric, geothermal and hydrogen sectors. The gravity of issues facing the Canadian energy sector amidst global geopolitical uncertainty alongside debate on what a definitive domestic energy strategy could look like over the next five years is driving historic urgency to this year’s conference.
“The eyes of the world will be on Calgary next month. We’re expecting to host what is likely the highest levels of speakers in the show’s history, with CEO and ministerial speakers from around the world,” said Nick Samain, Senior Vice President North America at dmg events. “With energy issues dominating both the recent Canadian federal election and changing international energy issues, plus the timing of the event right before the G7 Summit, the show and the city are ideally positioned to contend with crucial issues around energy security, affordability, access and investment in new projects. The event is an integral platform to showcase the tremendous potential we have to define the future of Canada’s energy future.”
