Eni company Plenitude commences construction of its largest ever solar project in Spain
Plenitude has begun building a huge 330MW photovoltaic park in the Spanish province of Badajoz.
Renopool marks the largest solar project realised by the Eni-controlled company and encompasses seven photovoltaic plants located in the Extremadura community.
Plenitude announced last week it was beginning the build with the support of construction companies OHLA, Sacyr and Sarpel.
The installation will generate 660GWh per year, equivalent to the energy consumption of about 200,000 households. As well as the seven photovoltaic plants, there will be one electric substation near Solana de los Barros.
Boosting Spain’s solar journey
Plenitude said Renopool will be built using the “best available technologies”, including bifacial modules, solar tracking structures, and central inverters.
The company’s CEO, Stefano Goberti, said construction of the solar park confirmed Plenitude’s “commitment to the Spanish renewable energy sector”.
“We operate about 400MW of wind and photovoltaic plants, (have) more than 1,000MW under construction, and more than 2,000MW under development,” said Goberti
“In addition, thanks to our integrated business model, we are also growing in the country’s retail market, with more than 300,000 customers, and we have recently begun to expand our network of electric vehicle charging points in the Iberian peninsula.”
Generating regional employment
Plenitude, which is active in 15-plus countries, said the execution of the project was being entrusted to “top-tier companies” under the turnkey formula.
New local job opportunities will be created by Renopool, which is scheduled to be completed during 2025.
The solar park will be connected to Spain’s national transmission grid through infrastructure consisting of three connection nodes and a high-voltage line built and shared with other developers.
Plenitude’s business model integrates the production of electricity from renewable sources. It currently has more than 3GW installed capacity, sells energy and energy solutions to 10 million European clients, and has an extensive network of 20,000 charging points for electric vehicles.
By 2027, the company intends to reach 11.5 million clients, at least 8GW of installed renewable capacity, and offer 40,000 charging points.
