TotalEnergies and Sempra to increase collaboration in North America
France’s TotalEnergies and California-based Sempra signed an agreement over the Vista Pacífico LNG export project in Mexico and another agreement for a co-development of several onshore and offshore renewables projects.
The companies, expanding their relations in North America, said that the Vista Pacífico LNG project is planned to be a mid-scale facility on Mexico’s west coast.
TotalEnergies will offtake one-third of Sempra’s future LNG production. Moreover, it will become a shareholder in the project with a minimum stake of 16.6 percent.
At the same time, Sempra could potentially acquire 30 percent of TotalEnergies’ equity interest in an offshore wind project off the coast of California. Simultaneously, the companies said that TotalEnergies could acquire 30 percent of Sempra’s equity interest in certain onshore renewable projects under development along the Mexico-US border.
“Over the past years, TotalEnergies has become the leading exporter of US LNG and has built up a pipeline of 4 GW of solar projects and 3 GW of offshore wind projects currently under development in the US,” Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman & CEO of TotalEnergies, said in a statement on Thursday.
TotalEnergies and Sempra are ongoing partners in Cameron LNG, a 12 Mt/y LNG export facility operating in Hackberry, Louisiana, ECA LNG, which is an approximately 3 Mt/y liquefaction facility under construction in Baja California, Mexico.
