Japan has been worried about the increase in oil prices that can affect their economy.

Japan will increase its efforts to develop offshore wind power projects, the country’s industry minister Koichi Hagiuda said on Friday, according to Reuters.

Hagiuda told reporters that the government will restart the public tender process for picking future wind farm operators. These tenders, he said, will not only take into account the pricing but also how fast the farms can be implemented.

Japan has been worried about the increase in oil prices that can affect their economy.

The country is the world's fifth largest GHG emitter and launched two wind farm auctions in 2020. In June 2021, a consortium of Toda, ENEOS, Osaka Gas and others won the rights to develop a 16.8-MW floating project off Goto City in Nagasaki Prefecture.

In September, METI said it will launch an auction for another wind zone off Akita Prefecture for a potential 360-MW project.
