NOC says oil leak under control
Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) said on Sunday that an oil leak at an offshore storage facility, has been under control.
The leak at the Farwah facility owned by Mabruk Oil Operations happen when a tanker was loading oil on Friday, NOC said.
Libya sits on Africa's largest oil reserves. It pumps 1.3 million barrels a day. However, the country's political unrest has long threatened the oil industry.
A week earlier, the Libyan oil minister Mohamed Oun has rejected the resignation of his deputy, Refaat al-Abbar, as the government wants to heal and control the country and its energy sector.
Oun told Abbar "to continue to work and perform his job duties normally and to exercise his responsibilities and competencies in accordance with the legislation in force."
However, the Libyan oil minister has heightened tensions with Mustafa Sanalla, the chairman of NOC in a power struggle over Libya's energy policy.
