QatarEnergy has awarded Spanish contractor Técnicas Reunidas additional engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work worth $560 million from QatarEnergy for its North Field South (NFS) project, including pipelines, interconnections, and ancillary systems for the LNG offplot facilities.

The new scope of work includes the commissioning of a range of offplot facilities, such as the LNG rundown lines, boiloff gas (BOG) recovery and utility pipelines that will connect the southern part of Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLIC) to new storage tanks and export facilities in RLIC. The scope of the project also includes the commissioning of LNG Tanks, an LNG loading berth, BOG compressors, and associated equipment.

Técnicas Reunidas is currently executing the EPC works for the expansion of the Condensate, LPG, and MEG storage, distribution, and associated facilities for the North Field Expansion Project. The company is also executing the EPC works for the Sulfur Handling Facility for the North Field Expansion Project in a joint venture with Wison Engineering Ltd.

Located north–east of the Qatar peninsula, the North Field is the largest non–associated gas field in the world, representing 10% of known natural gas reserves. The award further consolidates the relationship between QatarEnergy and Tecnicas Reunidas, with the latter working on large-scale projects related to the expansion of the North Field since 2021.

Earlier this year, QatarEnergy announced the main award of the EPC contract for the NFS project, which comprises two LNG mega trains with a combined capacity of 16 million tons per annum (MTPA). NFS, together with the North Field East (NFE) project, will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from the current 77 MTPA to 126 MTPA.

QatarEnergy holds a 75% interest in the NFS project and has already signed partnership agreements with TotalEnergies, Shell, and ConocoPhillips for the remaining 25%.
