Turnkey camp contracting in trend
Vince Fernandes, business development manager of Spacemaker speaks to Pipeline Magazine about the company’s onshore accommodation business
How does your company serve the oil and gas industry’s accommodation needs? What new products are you looking to bring to the market?
We have several highly specialised product lines which are purpose built to service the oil and gas industry. Spacemaker has carried out a lot of research and development to standardise the product offering, allowing us to present not only a direct sale option but also a customised rental package or complex joint sales and rental packages to our clients.
We provide a turnkey package solution that includes sewage treatment plants, reverse osmosis, power generation, furniture, HVAC and more. One of our key products is RigSpace - a heavy duty, movable steel building design, purpose built for the drilling sector. The product itself is not a new offering for the sector, however the fact that we can provide turnkey engineering, design specialities and calculations enables us to effectively provide bespoke solutions to our clients. The fleet also includes specialised e-shelters and DNV containerised units.
In providing solutions for accommodation sets in oil and gas industry, what are your main market differentiators?
Some of our key differentiators lie in the workmanship and quality of materials used to produce the modular buildings. With the IMS systems in place and our accreditations, we ensure that the supply chain materials used and subcontractors firmed are all in-line with our work philosophy and culture.
Meeting market industry standard is of the highest priority especially in restricted or specialised zones. With our years of experience in the field, our clients can be assured that all operational boxes are ticked (QA/QC, HSE) dependant on which final entity is being served, may it be ADNOC, KOC or Saudi Aramco. We are well positioned and have extensive experience in assuring the standards are maintained with no compromises.
What achievements are you most proud of in serving the housing segment in the oil and gas industry?
Some of our most notable achievements would be record completion camps completed for EPC contractors in the Al Dhabbiyah Area for a 1200-man accommodation camp.
Where are you seeing the most growth and activity in terms of supplying solutions for the oil and gas industry?
There are fairly large opportunities for e-shelters, pressurised accommodation, trailer mounted units and other types of specialised products, niche products which are custom built as per the clients requirements. Being in the industry, we are well positioned to take on these opportunities as we have the product lines available as well as the experience, capabilities and financial infrastructure. More importantly, we cater to the rental needs in this niche as well, some clients do not want to invest in these specialised product lines which can be expensive to maintain and this is where Byrne Equipment Rental provides the added effective solution.
Where are your strongest geographical markets in the oil and gas industry?
Geographically we are strongest within the GCC region and parts of Iraq. However, our reach has stretched to parts of North and East Africa dependent on our clients’ requirements.
What industry trend do you think will present a challenge/ opportunity for the onshore accommodation providers?
Turnkey camp contracting with facilities management is a trend at the moment which happens to be a project speciality that Byrne Equipment Rental and Spacemaker can provide and are well-positioned to support this shift in the market. It is incredibly important that our clients have a single point of contact for all of their accommodation needs as dealing with more than one contractor can be taxing for them but ultimately providing efficiency and cost savings with a single source supplier.
Byrne Equipment Rental and Spacemaker offer a unique solution of building, owning and operating a fully functional accommodation village whereby a client works on a man-day basis based on their project manpower schedule. Of course, this type of offering requires a level of expertise which we are proud to have extensive experience in and have demonstrated this through recent projects we have delivered.
