World class projects and services in onshore and offshore
Christophe Virondaud, Senior Vice President Commercial, TechnipFMC, speaks about the company’s strategy
Can you outline your company’s current onshore and offshore activities in the region, and especially in Abu Dhabi?
TechnipFMC is the leading oil and gas engineering organisation in the Middle East, providing technological solutions, engineering and consultancy services, project management consultancy, turnkey contracting and construction expertise in offshore and onshore operations, including oil refining, LNG and gas, petrochemicals and ethylene. We concentrate our efforts to be efficient and effective in delivering world-class service to our clients and supporting their needs from the earliest project stage. Early engagement brings a strong opportunity to influence cost and schedules through optimized technological and design choices. And with environmental concerns of the utmost importance, we propose more energy efficient solutions that drastically lower greenhouse and toxic gases emissions such as CO2, NOx and SOx.
Our recent project awards in the region show our diversified capabilities, technological innovation and ability to respond to our clients’ needs in onshore and offshore markets. Our latest references in onshore include the selection of our technology for the BOROUGE 4 Ethylene Mixed Feed Steam Cracker unit, the BAPCO Refinery modernisation programme, the Jebel Ali refinery for ENOC, and the Sulphate Reduction Plant for ADNOC. In terms of onshore market, we are mainly focusing on LNG, gas, oil refining, ethylene, petrochemicals and fertilisers markets. We also are a key player in the offshore market with ongoing delivery of Umlulu, one of the largest offshore fixed platform, for ADNOC in partnership with NPCC.
Our main strength is to build what we design and deliver on time with high quality and safety standards. So when we say we provide a full range of services across the project lifecycle, it means the quality of our conceptual work is backed by constant feedback from the field. We also offer a wide range of diverse experience covering all geographies, a multitude of construction environments and nearly every type of process technology.
How important is the Middle East to the company’s overall operations?
TechnipFMC has a long history in the Middle East, having been engaged in the region since the 1970s. With more than 1,500 employees across multiple offices, we offer our clients a depth of experience and expertise with 500-plus projects delivered, including the world’s largest ethylene project in UAE and landmark oil refining projects. Through these five decades in the region, we have demonstrated a strong local commitment to our clients with the implementation of several engineering offices in key countries such as UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in all of which we are supporting the maximisation of in-country value.
In Abu Dhabi, we have a long-standing presence of more than 40 years of providing technological solutions, engineering and consultancy services, turnkey contracting and construction expertise in onshore and offshore projects. Our operating and engineering teams play a central role in our regional growth strategy. We are fully committed to our ongoing effort to build and maintain long-term relationships with our local clients.
As a global oil and gas leader, our people work on the world’s most cutting-edge energy projects, propelling innovation and delivering true results. The energy and dedication of our teams drive our company’s ongoing success and we make every effort to attract the best talent in the countries where we operate.
What do you see as the major areas of opportunity in the region?
We are expecting major investments in oil refining, LNG, gas, ethylene, fertilisers and petrochemicals markets that represent opportunities in the coming years. In the upstream and in particular the offshore market, we also foresee continuous new investments such as fixed platforms/artificial islands for which we are also supporting customers in the region in the development of their investment from the conceptual phase with our Genesis Oil & Gas division.
