Noatum Maritime introduces first fully electric zero-emission harbour vessels in GCC
Noatum Maritime, part of AD Ports Group's Maritime & Shipping Cluster, has launched a significant zero-emission initiative with the acquisition of the Gulf Cooperation Council's first all-electric hydrofoiling pilot boat and two fully electric tugboats, the company announced in a press statement.
The electric Artemis EF-12 pilot boat employs advanced eFoiler technology that lifts the hull above the water's surface, reducing drag and cutting energy consumption by up to 85% while improving speed and efficiency. This 12-metre vessel represents a major advancement in energy-efficient pilotage for the region.
Complementing this acquisition, Noatum Maritime has introduced two Damen RSD-E tug 2513 electric tugboats for operations at Khalifa Port. Following successful trials of the first unit which was recognised by Guinness World Records as the most powerful electric tugboat, the company has permanently added these vessels to its fleet. The 70-tonne bollard pull tugs feature rapid charging technology, allowing multiple assignments on a single charge with complete recharging in just two hours. This setup offers cost-effective and high performing harbour assistance while keeping port emissions low.
"By investing in zero-emission pilotage and harbour operations, Noatum Maritime is delivering a cleaner more efficient solution that reduces the environmental footprint of port operations, drives long term cost savings and also benefits our customers," said Captain Ammar Mubarak Al Shaiba, CEO of AD Ports Group's Maritime & Shipping Cluster.
These vessels form a key component of Noatum Maritime's decarbonisation strategy, offering immediate benefits including operational efficiency, reduced emissions, and potential contributions to carbon credit programmes for their customers.
The company's transition to electric vessels, alongside ongoing investment in sustainable port infrastructure, positions Noatum Maritime as a pioneer in sustainable harbour operations in the region.
