Aramco and BYD collaborate on new energy vehicle technologies
A strategic agreement to explore advanced vehicle technologies has been signed between Aramco and Chinese manufacturer BYD. The collaboration, formalised through a Joint Development Agreement, connects Saudi Aramco Technologies Company (SATC) with BYD, one of the world's leading producers of new energy vehicles and power batteries.
Both organisations intend to leverage their respective research capabilities to advance efficiency and environmental performance in transportation technologies. The partnership combines Aramco's expertise in energy solutions with BYD's established position in electric vehicle manufacturing.
Ali A. Al-Meshari, Aramco Senior Vice President of Technology Oversight & Coordination, said: "The collaboration between SATC and BYD aims to support energy efficiency improvements, and it builds on Aramco's extensive research and development of new energy solutions. Aramco is exploring a number of ways to potentially optimize transport efficiency, from innovative lower-carbon fuels to advanced powertrain concepts".
From BYD's perspective, the agreement represents an opportunity to transcend traditional boundaries in vehicle development. "True breakthroughs come from openness and collaboration," noted Luo Hongbin, Senior Vice President of BYD. "We expect that SATC and our cutting-edge R&D capabilities in new energy vehicles will break the boundaries of geography and mindset to incubate solutions that combine highly-efficient performance with a lower carbon footprint."
The initiative reflects growing industry recognition that addressing climate challenges requires collaborative efforts across the global energy and automotive sectors. By bringing together expertise from different technological traditions, the companies aim to accelerate innovation in vehicle systems that could potentially reduce environmental impact while maintaining performance.
