China must import more coal from neighbouring countries: Jilin governor
Speaking to local power firms, Han Jun, governor of the northeastern province of Jilin, one of the worst hit regions with the power supply crunch, said that his country must import more coal from Russia, Indonesia and Mongolia in order to resolve the ongoing supply shortages.
According to Reuters news agency, Jilin is one of more than 10 provinces that have been asked to retain power in order to manage through the ongoing supply constraints.
During his talk, he asked companies to fulfill their "social responsibilities" and "overcome the difficulties" caused by coal price rises.
China is facing widening power supply cuts that have affected production at some factories. The State Grid Corp pledged to ensure basic power supply and avoid electricity cuts by taking comprehensive measures to ensure people had enough power.
