A Dubai energy scheme to contribute 440GWh in electricity savings annually
A new Dubai energy scheme is expected to contribute 440GWh in electricity savings annually by 2030; said its manager, The Regulatory & Supervisory Bureau for Electricity and Water in Dubai (RSB).
The Regulatory & Supervisory Bureau for Electricity and Water in Dubai (RSB) added that it has granted ENGIE Solutions, a subsidiary of the global French energy company ENGIE, the first accreditation under the "Building Energy Management Accreditation Scheme."
“The scheme also helps achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to provide 75 percent of Dubai’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050, as well as the Demand Side Management Strategy 2030 to reduce electricity and water demand by 30 percent by 2030,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy in a statement.
Al Tayer said that the initiatives launched by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, including this scheme, aim to enhance the efficiency of energy consumption, especially in buildings that account for 70 percent of electricity use. Energy and water represent the biggest single component in the costs of running a building. ENGIE provides low-carbon energy services for facility management.
“To achieve accreditation, applicants undergo a rigorous assessment process, including site visits. I am, therefore, confident that our scheme will identify and reward best practice. We encourage other energy management companies to consider applying for accreditation,” said Mustafa Al Yousuf, RSB Board Member and Chair of the Accreditation Board, at the ceremony at which ENGIE received their certificate of accreditation.
