Norway says oil and gas are vital during the world’s transition to a cleaner energy future.

Norway said on Wednesday it has plans to develop 30 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind capacity by 2040 to become an exporter of renewable electricity.

“This would nearly double our power output,” Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere told a news conference, Reuters reported.

According to Norway, oil and gas are vital during the world’s transition to a cleaner energy future.

The government said that a “significant portion of the electricity will be exported to other countries,” from the offshore wind.

It said it will begin licensing rounds for new acreage from 2025 onwards.
