TotalEnergies and Veolia partner to produce 1.5 TWh of biomethane
French energy group TotalEnergies signed an agreement with Veolia to produce biomethane from the latter’s waste and water treatment facilities, with the ambition to produce up to 1.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) of biomethane per year by 2025.
Veolia, which operates in more than 15 countries, will provide its expertise in the production and processing of biogas from its facilities; while TotalEnergies will assist through its knowledge of the biomethane value chain, the companies said in a statement.
“The development of biomethane is part of TotalEnergies' transformation into a broad energy company, and the deployment of its ambition to be a major player in renewables,” Stéphane Michel, President Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, said in a statement.
Producing renewable gas from organic waste will be the equivalent to the average annual natural gas consumption of 500,000 residents, the companies said, and will help save 200,000 tons of carbon per year.
