Mitsui, GS Energy partner with Abu Dhabi’s blue hydrogen project
Japan’s Mitsui and Korea’s GS Energy will partner with ADNOC to develop develop the world-scale low-carbon blue ammonia at TA’ZIZ.
"Mitsui and GS Energy will, upon equity participation and supply commencement, off-take significant volumes of low-carbon blue ammonia to meet growing demand in the energy and industrial sectors in Japan and Korea, respectively," ADNOC said in a statement on Tuesday.
The partnerships follow the recent project framework agreement signed between ADNOC and Fertiglobe to advance the production of low-carbon blue ammonia at TA'ZIZ, said ADNOC.
Low-carbon blue ammonia is made from nitrogen and clean hydrogen which can then be used instead of fuel in various forms. The UAE and Saudi Arabia have said they are in talks with companies in Asia to develop the market.
The UAE's Minister of Energy, Suhail Al Mazrouei said on Tuesday that hydrogen is expensive and that the future of energy will not be cheap.
