Shell and Uniper to drive development of hydrogen economy in Europe
Shell Gas & Power Developments B.V. and Uniper Hydrogen GmbH have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore accelerating the development of a hydrogen economy in Europe; the companies said in a statement.
Under the terms they will find joint opportunities to couple industrial and mobility demand with hydrogen supply, production and storage; within Germany, the Netherlands and potentially other European countries.
The companies said that they will look at the necessary infrastructure for large-scale transport of hydrogen and CO2 from the ports of Rotterdam and Wilhelmshaven to North Rhine Westphalia (NRW). Uniper will explore further the supply of hydrogen from its sites in both ports.
They said that Shell’s Rheinland transformation is among the projects they are considering; which holds a 10MW PEM electrolyser, the largest of its kind in Europe,on July 2nd and are working with partners to expand the capacity to 100MW.
