Algeria Appoints Energy Minister in Cabinet Reshuffle
(Bloomberg) -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune appointed a new energy minister in a reshuffling of his cabinet Sunday.
Mourad Adjal, head of state-run electricity and gas utility Sonelgaz, will succeed Mohamed Arkab who is now in charge of a new portfolio for mines and hydrocarbons.
Algeria, home to Africa’s second-largest gas reserves, approved legislation earlier this year allowing foreign companies to own as much as 80% of the country’s mining projects as it seeks to diversify its economy.
Tebboune also appointed former Industry Minister Sifi Ghrieb as the new prime minister Sunday and commissioned him to form the new government.
(Corrects first paragraph to clarify it’s not Tebboune’s first cabinet reshuffle since reelection.)
