Jose Mauro Coelho becomes Petrobras new CEO
Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras said on Thursday that Jose Mauro Coelho has become the chief executive for a one-year term, after the company’s board voted on Thursday.
Coelho will replace retired army general Joaquim Silva e Luna in the job. He is expected to take office later on Thursday.
The announcement came a day after the board members voted on Wednesday to give the former energy ministry official a chair within their team.
Coelho comes at a time of high fuel prices which put the company under political scrutiny as the presidential elections approach.
He is the third Petrobras CEO under President Jair Bolsonaro, who wants him to decrease public frustration over fuel prices.
