West approach towards energy transition is exclusive
The Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Mohammad Barkindo, said that the current approach of the West appears to be an exclusive energy transition of the developed world without the rest of the world.
Barkindo was speaking during ADIPEC on Monday, in which he said that the conversation "is gradually being taken over by emotions."
"This conversation, although is on the technical level, it has been impacted by the political hierarchy among our member countries, they have been under pressure by strong allies of ours to pump more oil," he commented on the pressure some countries are facing to increase supply of oil.
The SecGen called on Egypt and the UAE who are hosting COP27 and COP28 to work together to "not only accelerate the implementation of Paris but also bring back the Paris agreement," through forming a joint technical committee.
"If these two countries can work together I think there is an opportunity for he world," he said.
