Strengthening UK–India energy ties through trade and innovation

In an exclusive studio interview with Energy Connects at India Energy Week 2026, Jinoos Shariati, First Secretary (Trade) and Silvi Kurian, Sector Head - Energy, Department for Business and Trade, both at the British High Commission in India, discussed how the recent UK-India free trade agreement is expected to boost trade volumes, ease tariff barriers and unlock new opportunities for businesses on both sides. The conversation explored the UK’s industrial strategy and clean power mission, the growing complementarity between the two countries in areas such as renewables, offshore wind, hydrogen and grid modernisation, and the role of the UK Net Zero Pavilion at India Energy Week in showcasing innovation. Both Shariati and Kurian underscored the strength of the UK–India partnership in supporting energy transition goals and advancing shared lower carbon ambitions under the Vision 2035 framework.
