Energy for progress: how ADNOC Gas is scaling up India’s power
Energy is the lifeline of progress, and in a world of shifting geopolitics, market volatility, and climate imperatives, the choices we make today will define tomorrow. Natural gas has emerged as a critical bridge — delivering lower-carbon, reliable energy while enabling industrial growth. For India, a global economic powerhouse, this transition is about more than meeting demand; it is about shaping a resilient, sustainable future. ADNOC Gas stands at the heart of this journey, forging partnerships that go beyond supply to strengthen energy security and innovation.
India’s energy transformation: a shared vision with ADNOC Gas
India’s accelerated energy transformation is redefining the global landscape. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India — ‘Viksit Bharat’ — by 2047 is ambitious and inspiring. ADNOC Gas’ presence at the India Energy Week 2026 in Goa underscores our support to the country’s emergence as a pivotal force in energy and industrial development. As the CEO of ADNOC Gas, I am privileged to witness and contribute to this progress.
Strategic partnerships powering progress
India is already the world’s fourth-largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) importer. It is now planning to raise its import capacity by 27% to 66.7 million metric tonnes per annum (mmtpa) by 2030, according to India Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri. At ADNOC Gas, we are proud to play a pivotal role in this transformation through long-term LNG agreements with leading Indian companies that go beyond commercials.
Recent months saw $20 billion in long-term deals to serve our customers and friends
In February 2025, ADNOC Gas signed a landmark 14-year Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) to supply up to 1.2 mmtpa of LNG from our Das Island facility starting in 2026. This was followed in August by a 15-year agreement for an additional 1 mmtpa from our upcoming Ruwais LNG project, scheduled to commence operations in 2028. By 2029, IndianOil will become our largest LNG customer with a total of 2.2 mmtpa offtake. Ruwais LNG will be the Middle East’s first LNG facility powered entirely by clean electricity, aligning with the UAE’s and India’s sustainability ambitions. In the same month, we signed a 10-year agreement with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) for 0.5 mmtpa from Das Island, and in November 2024, a 10-year deal with GAIL India for up to 0.52 mmtpa starting in 2026.
These strategic partnerships ensure reliable supply today and sustainable growth for tomorrow, reinforcing ADNOC Gas' position as a trusted LNG supplier to key growth markets in Asia, particularly India.
Empowering economic resilience and growth
India’s ambition to become a $5 trillion economy by 2027 hinges on access to energy that is low-carbon, reliable, and scalable. While the growth of renewables has been impressive, their intermittent nature calls for a dependable partner — and LNG fulfills that role.
At ADNOC Gas, we are proud to support this vision. Our Das Island facility — world’s third longest-operating LNG plants — has shipped over 3,500 cargoes globally since 1977, powering critical sectors such as fertilisers, steel, and manufacturing. This legacy of reliability continues to underpin India’s industrial growth and strengthen initiatives like ‘Make in India’, ensuring energy security while enabling sustainable progress.
Helping build healthier communities
India’s rapidly expanding City Gas Distribution network, fueled by dependable LNG supply, is transforming energy access — bringing cleaner fuel to homes and critical industries. Domestic natural gas consumption is projected to grow by 3–4% annually in FY2027, according to Investment Information and Credit Rating Agency (ICRA). Every move towards natural gas brings India closer to cleaner air, healthier communities, and stronger infrastructure — without compromising industrial growth.
Aiding security, affordability, and sustainability
India’s focus on available, affordable, and sustainable energy aligns perfectly with ADNOC Gas’ portfolio. Our agreements with Indian companies are designed to provide flexible, affordable LNG options, ensuring supply security and supporting India’s goal to raise natural gas to 15% of its energy mix by 2030. For India, energy affordability is a matter of social justice, and we are proud to be a trusted partner in this journey.
A shared future
As India moves toward its 2047 vision, ADNOC Gas stands as a steadfast. Our commitment is evident in innovative projects such as AI-driven safety and efficiency systems at the Ruwais LNG project, setting new benchmarks for sustainability and operational excellence. Through strategic partnerships and a shared vision, ADNOC Gas is proud to power India’s journey toward ‘Viksit Bharat’ and accelerate its ‘Make in India’ ambitions.
We are honoured to play a key role in this transformation and to strengthen the UAE–India energy alliance, driving a more resilient and sustainable future together.
