Innovation and exportation to support oil and gas operators regionally
TechnipFMC’s ICAD facility in Abu Dhabi – the first wellhead manufacturer in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – supports oil and gas operators across the Middle East and beyond by focusing on Emiratisation, innovation, and exportation.
What started as a service base is now a 48,000 square meter engineering, manufacturing and services facility with export capabilities, where local talent development is prioritised to advance the energy industry. Surface wellhead and tree systems made at the facility are deployed in the Middle East and across Africa, Asia, and Europe. The team is also geared up to deploy the iComplete® high-performance pressure containment system in the Middle East.
TechnipFMC has built its industry-leading capabilities in the Middle East to help its clients there and around the globe achieve their highly strategic, long-term ambitions.
“The world needs affordable, accessible, secure, and efficient energy,” said Thierry Conti, President, Surface Technologies, at TechnipFMC.
“TechnipFMC has developed a sustainable, competitive, and local engineering, manufacturing, and services footprint that delivers critical technologies, products, and field services to the Middle East and beyond.”
TechnipFMC has built its industry-leading capabilities in the Middle East to help its clients there and around the globe achieve their highly strategic, long-term ambitions.
The ICAD facility supplies the full suite of TechnipFMC surface products and services, including industry-leading Coflexip® flexible pipe solutions and high-efficiency production solutions – such as its InLine DeLiquidiser, InLine ElectroCoalescer, InLine PhaseSplitter, and InLine DeWaterer – which help operators overcome challenges in the Middle East. This is supported by the company’s ability to deploy field operation capabilities developed over the past decade in the region.
“ICAD is part of our strategy to deliver efficiency, certainty, and excellence to our customers globally,” said Conti. “For us, it’s about being partners in success. We’re committed to growing skills in the Emirates, while helping the nation and our customers achieve their ambitions. Delivering operational excellence to our customers, in manufacturing and in the field, is embedded in our execution model. Our Emirati colleagues are doing that, working alongside industry experts from around the world.”
Conti believes there’s a clear reason why TechnipFMC has a high retention rate for Emirati employees. “Our people know they can continually learn and grow as they contribute to the success of TechnipFMC and the UAE,” he said. “Those two elements go hand in hand.
This reflects how proud we are to be committed to the Emirates’ In Country Value program. We have Emirati colleagues in engineering, manufacturing, services and operations, quality, health and safety, finance, and human resources. There are great opportunities for professional development on many different career paths.”
Emiratis are a core part of the team at TechnipFMC, where integration is part of the company’s philosophy that extends through its products and project execution methods. Conti explains, “We are already developing the next generation of Emirati talent through our internship program for engineering undergraduates at Khalifa University. And we’re developing and growing our in-country supply chain.”
TechnipFMC’s iComplete® platform takes that integrated thinking into the realm of unconventional resources. “The Middle East has a massive opportunity to increase domestic natural gas production through unconventional sources,” Conti said.
“iComplete® delivers on ‘the power of less.’ It is a smarter, safer way to make the economics of unconventionals work at scale by replacing completion chaos with control. One vendor – us – supplies an integrated, fully autonomous pressure containment ecosystem that combines advanced missile and well systems with a digital backbone. This combination unlocks value, boosts efficiency and reliability, reduces risk, and improves safety by taking people out of the red zone.
“iComplete® has proved its performance in mature and advanced markets such as the Permian Basin the United States. One operator achieved 270 hours of continuous pumping. Others recorded 95 percent uptime using iComplete®. Now, operators here have the opportunity to boost performance and reliability by leveraging our North American experience.”
