Building relationships to propel the energy transition
Andrew Barry, Vice President of Global LNG Marketing, and Chairman of LNG Market Development, ExxonMobil Oil & Gas Company, highlights Gastech’s focus on collaboration, relationships, and diversity in advancing a lower-emission energy future.
As Gastech wraps up this year, what are your key takeaways?
Looking back on the week, I am incredibly grateful for this year’s event, as I spent valuable time with my team, our customers, our government partners and our peers. This year’s conference attendance was fantastic -the panel discussions, meetings and networking opportunities were both thought provoking and productive. Strengthening our long-term relationships is always one of my favorite outcomes from conferences like these, and Gastech provides a perfect environment for that.
The collaborative element of Gastech has been especially encouraging – as all of us aim to improve lives by providing affordable, reliable energy. I was happy to see policymakers from around the world sitting with energy producers and discussing how to make the energy transition a reality. We look forward to continuing those collaborative sessions even after Gastech concludes.
What were some memorable moments from Gastech?
As I mentioned, my favorite thing about this week was connecting with old friends and making a few new ones. Our business is largely based on relationships and staying connected is so important. Spending time in person with customers, partners and colleagues fosters relationship building and encourages progress and action.
This year’s Power Play Awards were another major highlight, as we hosted this year’s event in the beautiful Villa Necchi. Power Play began as a way to promote inclusion and diversity in LNG and has grown to be a strong networking and recognition program. This year, we recognized four outstanding winners in our industry who continue to raise the bar for all professionals in this field. Diversity of perspective is powerful, and the Power Play Awards are always inspiring to me – I’m really proud of our industry in general but, more specifically, I’m proud of my team for continuing to promote inclusion and diversity through this program.

Any last thoughts you’d like to share?
I’d like to extend a thank you to colleagues, friends, counterparties and others for joining ExxonMobil this year – at our booth, in meetings, in between panel discussions or at our reception and Power Play awards. We appreciate the opportunity to have open and meaningful discussions and to continue our work together to meet the energy needs of the world while lowering emissions. LNG has an important role to play now, and in the future, as we continue to advance lower-emission technologies and energy sources to meet the evolving needs of society. I’m excited to see what we can continue to achieve together.
