Second reactor at Barakah nuclear plant begins operation
Barakah nuclear power station in the United Arab Emirates began operating its second reactor, after the first reactor began commercial operations in April.
"The startup of Unit 2 reactor at Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant marks a milestone towards achieving full commercial operations and the halfway point to supplying safe, clean electricity to 25 per cent of the UAE," tweeted the media office.
Barakah, is built by Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO). It has four reactors with total capacity of 5,600 megawatts (MW), which is equivalent to about 25 percent of the UAE's peak demand.
