Malaysia’s Petronas to deploy solar energy across the group’s assets
Malaysia’s national oil company, Petronas, will install solar panels across the group's assets in the country to “increase energy efficiency” and “reduce carbon emissions.”
The announcement comes a day after the company announced a contract with China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) to supply LNG on a secured 10 year term deal.
The LNG contract is for 2.2 million tonnes per annum of LNG over the aforementioned period, indexed to a combination of the Brent and Alberta Energy Company (AECO) indices. The deal between both companies is valued at around US $7 billion over the 10 years.
“The deployment of solar energy at our assets forms part of our journey towards NZCE 2050. While we have an active role in powering businesses with clean energy, we are cognizant that the transformative effort should also start at our home ground,” said Dr Jay Mariyappan, head of new energy at Petronas.
The company said in a statement that they will install four assets, that would be enough to generate clean energy for more than 20,000 households.
