Emerson said on Monday it is introducing a new silencing technology to protect workers from Gas Process Noise.

The Fisher WhisperTube Modal Attenuator, they said is “a full-bore device offering 15 decibel sound suppression” which helps to reduce noises such as the ones inside pipes that are produced by sources upstream.

The company said that the technology is installed downstream in place of a pipe spool piece, which does not generate any additional pressure and has no impact on the process flow.

Emerson said their new technology has a drop-in solution, which improves worker safety and regulatory compliance, while also reducing the risk of damage to downstream equipment which can take place due to high noise levels internal to piping.

“The exact amount of noise reduction depends on the frequency of the noise and the velocity of the flow. Estimates regarding the degree of sound suppression can be provided by Emerson experts prior to purchase and installation,” the company said.

It added that the technology does not introduce an obstruction into the piping.
