Ampelmann, announced the launch of an electric version of its signature A-type system. The company said that the technology is “fully operational” after undergoing extensive offshore trials on the Horizon Star vessel in Eneco’s Princess Amalia windfarm.

“The successful upgrade of the A-type to an electric system moves us directly towards that goal. This is a key milestone for our company as we continue to work towards new sustainable innovations,” said said CEO Jan van der Tempel in a statement.

The latest iteration of the A-type has seen its traditional hydraulic power train replaced by electric regenerative actuation, said the company. This has a decrease in the technology’s energy use by more than 80 percent.

The company said in a statement that the shift in technology makes the system “significantly lighter,” quicker to mobilise.
