Connecticut Governor Says Wind Farm Fight Will Raise Power Bills
(Bloomberg) -- Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont blasted the Trump administration’s order halting work on offshore wind projects, saying it will undermine attempts to lower power bills.
“This is blowing a hole in our efforts to bring down the price of electricity,” Lamont, a Democrat, said during an interview on Bloomberg Television Tuesday.

His comments come a day after the US Interior Department announced it was suspending leases for all five major offshore wind projects under construction in the US. That includes Revolution Wind, a 700-megawatt project expected to power about 350,000 homes in Rhode Island and Connecticut.
The move is Trump’s latest attack on renewable energy and raises fresh questions about offshore wind’s prospects in the US. The orders from the Interior Department say the projects may impact radar signals and undermine national security, an argument that may prove stronger than the administration’s previous efforts to hobble offshore energy that have been rejected in court.
Lamont disputed the Interior Department’s claims and said the Revolution project had been thoroughly vetted by several federal agencies.
Lamont joined the governors of New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island in a joint statement, saying that pausing construction “defies logic, will hurt our bid for energy independence, will drive up costs for America ratepayers, and will make us lose thousands of good-paying jobs.”
