COP26 delegates agree on need to deliver $100 bln annual climate support
COP26 president Alok Sharma said that delegates agreed that they must deliver on the US $100 billion per year pledge to help vulnerable countries tackle climate change, reported Reuters.
Sharma said there was a common agreement to do more to keep the 1.5 degrees Celsius target within reach. He made these comments at the preparatory meeting in Milan, which was also attended by US climate envoy John Kerry who said that he thinks "enormous progress'' can be made at the upcoming conference.
The COP26 conference will take place in Glasgow this year on October 31. The conference agenda aims to secure a more ambitious climate action by nearly 200 countries that signed the 2015 Paris Agreement to limit global warming to below 2.0 degrees celsius- with preferably 1.5 degrees.
