Petronas and ExxonMobil collaborate on CCS project
PETRONAS and ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc. are partnering to explore opportunities in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies to help decarbonise Malaysia’s upstream industry and provide CO2 storage solutions for the region, the companies said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the MoU that was signed and formalised on November 3rd, both companies will assess the viability of CCS potential projects in certain locations. The companies said they will also share subsurface technical data to enable carbon storage assessment and characterisation.
“Relevant data related to pipelines, facilities and wells will also be shared to evaluate potential reutilisation of existing infrastructure for transport and storage in selected locations,” they said in the statement.
Last month, ExxonMobil said it wanted to expand its CCS operations in Asia and is in discussion with different companies.
