The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals (DPRP) have reaffirmed their commitment to strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s energy security and fostering national prosperity.

This pledge was made during a courtesy visit by Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Group, to NNPC Ltd’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, at the NNPC Towers in Abuja. The meeting underscored both organisations' dedication to a cooperative relationship that prioritises mutual growth over competition.

“There is no competition between us,” Dangote stated. “NNPC is part and parcel of our business, and we are also part of NNPC. This is an era of co-operation between the two organisations.”

Ojulari echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of a synergistic partnership in achieving the nation’s energy objectives. He assured that NNPC Ltd would continue to work closely with Dangote Group to ensure energy security and drive economic growth.

This renewed alliance follows the recent signing of a 10-year Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement between NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML), a subsidiary of NNPC Ltd, and Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE. Under this agreement, NGML will supply 100 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day to the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State. The supply comprises 50 million standard cubic feet per day as a firm commitment and an additional 50 million on an interruptible basis, with options for renewal and expansion.

The partnership aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policy of leveraging Nigeria’s abundant gas resources to stimulate industrial growth and economic development. Both NNPC Ltd and Dangote Group view this collaboration as a pivotal step towards reducing the nation’s dependence on imported fuels and achieving energy self-sufficiency.

As the Dangote Refinery ramps up operations, the strengthened partnership with NNPC Ltd is expected to play a crucial role in realising Nigeria’s energy aspirations and delivering tangible benefits to its citizens.
