The United Arab Emirates said on Monday that three individuals were killed and 6 other injured due to a potential drone attack near Abu Dhabi airport that led to two fires.
The country later confirmed that the attack took place by a drone. "The criminal Houthi attack on some civilian facilities in Abu Dhabi ... and the Houthi militia's targeting of regional security will not affect the path of security and peace in which we live," Anwar Gargash, a senior Emirati official said in a tweet.
Abu Dhabi police reported Monday morning that three fuel tankers trucks exploded on Monday in Abu Dhabi's industrial area, Musaffah. The news was carried by state news agency WAM said the initial investigations suspects that drones are behind two fires in the capital Abu Dhabi on Monday, including a minor one in a construction area of Abu Dhabi International airport.
WAM reported that preliminary investigations indicate the detection of small flying objects, possibly belonging to drones, that fell in the two areas and may have caused the explosion and fire.
They previously said that there was "no significant damages" and a full investigation has been launched by the authorities. However, they late reported that one Pakistani and two Indian nationals were killed.
The news agency said that authorities have launched an extensive investigation into the causes of the incidents including a minor fire at Abu Dhabi International airport.
ADNOC later said that at approximately 10:00 AM, an incident occurred at their Mussafah Fuel Depot in Abu Dhabi which resulted in the outbreak of a fire.
"Emergency response teams, including civil defence, fire and ambulance responders as well as an ADNOC emergency response team quickly attended the scene, and the fire was brought under control and extinguished," said the company in a statement.
"ADNOC is deeply saddened to confirm that three colleagues have died," they added.
