ExxonMobil pledges net-zero emissions by 2050
ExxonMobil said on Tuesday it aims to achieve net-zero emissions from its global operations by 2050, joining global oil and gas companies.
"We are developing comprehensive roadmaps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our operated assets around the world," Exxon Chief Executive Officer Darren Woods said in a statement.
The company said that its strategy applies to Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
“It builds on the Company’s 2030 emission-reduction plans, which include plans to reach net-zero emissions in our Permian Basin operations by 2030, and ongoing investments in lower-emission solutions, including carbon capture and storage, hydrogen and biofuels,” the company said in a statement.
Last November, Exxon said it would increase its expenditure US $15 billion by 2027 on projects dedicated to lower carbon emissions.
