Staatsolie grants TotalEnergies and Qatar Petroleum blocks in the Suriname SHO Bid Round
TotalEnergies and Qatar Petroleum have been awarded Block 6 and Block 8 in the Suriname SHO Bid Round 2020/2021.
Staatsolie said it received a total of ten bids for three (3) of the eight (8) blocks which were on offer. The company said they granted Chevron Exploration Suriname Limited for Block 5, and TotalEnergies and Qatar Petroleum for Block 6 and Block 8.
TotalEnergies will operate these blocks that are located in shallow water with depths between 30 meters and 50 meters. Moreover, the blocks are adjacent to the TotalEnergies operated Block 58.
Previously in January, TotalEnergies have said it discovered Keskesi East-1 well, in Block 58 off the coast of Suriname. This followed three other previous discoveries at Maka Central, Sapakara West and Kwaskwasi.
Including the new additions, TotalEnergies said it has expanded its position in Suriname, an emerging world class basin. The company said that a 3D seismic acquisition campaign will be carried out on these 2 licenses to confirm their potential.
TotalEnergies will operate the blocks with a 40 percent working interest, Qatar Petroleum will operate the blocks with 20 percent working interest and the national company Staatsolie will operate with 40 percent working interest.
