Shell Plc has been ordered to pay Venture Global Inc.’s legal fees for an arbitration case that the liquefied natural gas exporter prevailed in over the oil giant.

Venture Global said in a brief emailed statement Friday that the International Court of Arbitration had awarded it an undisclosed amount. The company plans to use the money for coastal restoration efforts in Louisiana.

Shell, which is appealing the case, didn’t immediately comment.

The court, within the International Chamber of Commerce, sided in August with Venture Global in the case, which centered on the sale of LNG cargoes from the company’s plant in Louisiana.

The facility began producing LNG in 2022. But instead of providing cargoes to Shell and other customers with long-term contracts, Venture Global sold them directly into the spot market. The producer said its contracts permitted such a move while the plant was still in its commissioning phase.

Venture Global lost a similar dispute with BP Plc.
