There are more than 230 drilling rigs across Saudi Arabia, Baker Hughes said.

“Baker Hughes has established that as of today, more than 230 rigs are working across operations in Saudi Arabia,” the Houston-based company said in a statement on its website Sunday. “The operations related to drilling rigs, including production testing, non-rotational rigs, completions or workovers rigs, rigs under mobilization, have not historically been reflected in worldwide rig counts,” Baker Hughes added.

The company, a supplier of technology to the global energy industry, provides a weekly tally of active rigs drilling for oil and gas in the US as well as a monthly report covering operations globally. The monthly rig count data updated on Aug. 1 showed that there were 69 active rigs in Saudi Arabia in July, comprising 20 drilling for oil and 49 drilling for gas, according to data on the Baker Hughes website.

The company’s website defines “active” rigs as those which are drilling a well and have not yet reached target depth, while not including those that are in transit to a work site or being used in other activities like production testing or workovers.
