One person died in a fire that broke out Saturday at the Abadan oil refinery in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan Province, the semi-official Fars News Agency said.

The fire, which was fully extinguished about two hours after it began, was caused by a pump leak in one of the refinery’s processing units, Fars said, adding that there were no signs of sabotage or human error. Production was unaffected, according to the Oil Ministry’s Shana news agency.

Footage aired by local media showed intense flames and a thick column of black smoke rising from the site. The refinery, the country’s biggest, has a capacity exceeding 500,000 barrels a day.
