Reliance Industries backs Aramco's Chairman as an independent director

Aramco Chairman, Yasir Al-Rumayyan announcing the expansion of the company's industrial program.

Reliance Industries Ltd said that the Chairman of Saudi Aramco, Yasir Al-Rumayyan met all regulatory criteria for his appointment as an independent director.

Al-Rumayyan's inclusion to the board of the company is seen as part of a process to formalise a deal to sell 20 percent  stake in the Indian conglomerate.

The voting process on the appointment, made on July 19th  for a period of three years, will end on Oct. 19th, the company said in a statement.

“This will help strengthen the Board's diversity and skill-sets and benefit Reliance through the transition from oil to chemicals and the aim to achieve Net Carbon Zero by 2035," the company said in the statement.
